A Strategic & Developmental Guide for U.S. Families
Thinking about college outside the United States?
More families are exploring international degree options — whether for cost, culture, politics, or perspective. But choosing to pursue a degree abroad is about more than logistics.
This 90-minute live workshop will help you evaluate whether studying outside the U.S. truly fits your teen — academically, developmentally, and for the life they hope to build for themselves long-term.
This isn't just a list of countries, it's a decision framework.
We’ll examine how international university systems differ from the U.S., what kinds of students tend to thrive abroad, and how to think strategically about long-term outcomes.
If you’re curious but unsure, this workshop will give you clarity.
• How international admissions systems actually work
• Key differences in academic structure (specialization, flexibility, student life models)
• Cultural and identity considerations when studying abroad
• Financial realities, including tuition differences and aid limitations
• Visa pathways and long-term career implications
• A developmental lens: which students tend to thrive in more independent systems
• A framework you can use to evaluate fit for your own teen
All participants will receive a structured College Abroad Decision Framework — a guided tool designed to help your family evaluate academic structure, developmental readiness, cultural fit, and long-term career implications.
This framework is designed to move the conversation beyond logistics and into thoughtful, strategic decision-making.
Recording access included.
This workshop is designed for families with middle or high school students who are:
• Curious about international universities
• Weighing U.S. vs. global options
• Interested in cost comparisons
• Thinking long-term about mobility and career pathways

Registered participants will be given access to the recording for 30 days.
I'm Lizette Paredes, a college counselor working at the intersection of adolescent development and selective admissions. With nearly two decades of experience in admissions, school counseling, and international education, I bring a systems-level understanding of both U.S. and global higher education pathways.
I've supported students through domestic and international application processes and understand the academic, cultural, and developmental considerations that shape successful transitions.
My work focuses on helping teens clarify who they are and translate that clarity into thoughtful, strategic decisions — whether applying within the U.S. or abroad.
